Main line Engines

Thomas:

Thomas is a small Tank Engine who runs his branch line with pride. He is almost never seen without his faithful coaches Annie and Clarabel.

Debuts S1 - Thomas and Gordon.

Edward:

Edward is older than most of the engines, but is a very kind-natured engine who works as a back engine to help engines up Gordon’s Hill.

Henry:

Henry once stayed in a tunnel for being afraid of the rain. He thought it would spoil his lovely green paint with red stripes. After his accident with a freight train, Henry was sent to Crewe to be rebuilt. However, he does tend to suffer at times. His favourite place on Sodor is the Forest.

Gordon:

Big, blue, fast, conceited. Those four words pretty much sum up what  this number 4 engine is. Gordon pulls the express from Knapford Station to different stations all over the Island.

James:

James is a special mixed-traffic, which means that he can pull coaches and trucks easily. He is very boastful, but is a very fun chap.

Percy:

Percy is a cheeky little engine who is Thomas’ best friend. He is at his happiest when he pulls the Mail Train. He has had numerous accidents in the past, but soon learned by his mistakes.

Toby:

Toby is a tram engine from Arlesdale End. He has his own shed on his branch line and has a coach called Henrietta. He has cowcatchers and sideplates to prevent people and animals from getting hurt if they should stray onto the line.

“Duck”:

“Duck”, originally Montague, arrived to the Island to help the Fat Controller. He is a Great Western Engine, and talks endlessly about it. For some reason, he has been one of the absent engines from the TV series.

Donald and Douglas:

Donald and Douglas are Scottish twin engines. At first, they caused the Fat Controller lots of problems, but they had a chance to redeem themselves after working hard in the snow.

Bill and Ben:

Bill and Ben are Saddle Tank engine twins who love to cause mischief. They work for the Sodor China Company and at Brendam Bay. They work mainly with Mavis.

Oliver:

Oliver was saved from Scrap by Douglas after failing to escape himself. He is the newest addition to the Little Western branch line, and works with Duck. There is talk of them returning in Series 10.

Stepney:

Stepney is another engine who was saved from scrap, but he was saved by Rusty. He now runs the Bluebell railway and loves to have a good long run.

Harvey:

When Harvey the Crane Engine arrived on the Island, the engines were unkind to him, even Edward, misjudging him as Cranky on Wheels. But they changed their minds about him  when he rescued Percy.

Murdoch:

Murdoch is a huge, mighty gold engine with ten driving wheels. Despite his Hercules like strength, he is really a quiet fellow who longs for peace and quiet.

Molly:

Molly is another newcomer to the Island. She’s a beautiful bright canary yellow engine who is very strong, yet very sensitive. She does not like to think that she is the new engine. She likes taking full loaded trucks. She was embarrassed when the tarpaulin and lights flew off her trucks in the wind.

Neville:

Neville is one of the newest engines on Sodor. At first, there were rumours that Neville was a friend of the Diesels because he looked like Diesel with a tender. But later, he was in Trouble when he dangled from a bridge which was broken. Thomas soon came to his rescue and then apologised for misjudging him.

Narrow Gauge Engines

Skarloey:

Skarloey is an old engine who works with his brother, Rheneas. He was pulling Sir Handel’s coaches one day when he felt stiff, until a spring made way and he was on a slant. Eventually, he reached the station and James took his passengers. He was rewarded with a trip to the works to be mended.

Rheneas:

Rheneas is Skarloey’s brother. He was sent to be mended for most of the S4 episodes but was seen as cameos throughout S4.

Sir Handel:

Sir Handel was named Falcon years ago when he lived with Duke and Stuart(Peter Sam). He is a troublesome engine who prefers to take smart coaches instead of those “cattle truck” coaches. He is set to return in Series 10.

Peter Sam:

Peter Sam used to be called Stuart when he lived with Falcon and Duke years ago. He is a kind friendly engine who is more than ready to help out anyone. He once helped do Sir Handel’s Work when Sir handel pretended to be ill. Unfortunately for him, the trucks on the winch broke free and crashed head on into him, cracking his funnel and denting his dome. He was left out of work for a few weeks, until one winter day, as he was going through the tunnel, an Icicle knocked his funnel clean off. Later on his journey, his driver found a drainpipe lying beside the track. He wired the drainpipe to Peter Sam’s Boiler. The other engines laughed until the day when his Giesl arrived. Now, Peter Sam wears the new funnel with pride.

Rusty:

Rusty is the only diesel so far to work on the Skarloey Railway. He can often be seen working with Skarloey and Rheneas. He helped save Stepney from Scrap. Recently, Michael Brandon made Rusty a female, causing uproar with the fans.

Duncan:

Duncan keeps busy and means well, but he’s bouncy and rude. He sings and sways and swirls around the track. His driver calls it “Rock ‘n’ Roll”. He does not like being told what to do by the other engines. Recently, he’s calmed down a bit.

Duke:

Duke lived with Stuart and Falcon ages ago before they were called Peter Sam and Sir Handel.He was the oldest and named after the Duke of Sodor. He was proud to be named after him, and loved to keep the young engines in order.Stuart and Falcon were fond of him and called him Granpuff.

Smudger:

With his American accent and his mischievous appearance, Smudger is a show-off! He rode roughly and this often made him come off the rails. Until the Manager turned him into a generator.

Mighty Mac:

Mighty Mac is a double ended Fairlie, and the newest addition to the Skarloey Railway. It is a funny engine, because it’s two engines in one! Mighty is the older half with hair, and Mac is the younger one with freckles. They keep arguing over which way to go. When Mighty goes one way, Mac wants to go the other.

Rolling Stock

Toad:

Toad is Oliver ’ s greatest companion, and his break van . He was saved from scrap, as well as Oliver, by Douglas. He helped Oliver get revenge on the trucks after Oliver was pushed by the trucks down the turntable well.
